Where’s the wine?: david dove and joe mcphee

We are proud to bring you this incredible collaboration between experimental music and jazz luminaries david dove and joe mcphee,
out now in vinyl and digital download on Bandcamp.

This album brings together saxophone/trumpet legend Joe McPhee and Houston trombone player David Dove in two live performances.

Side A captures Dove and McPhee crashing a late-night house party at the home of Tom Carter and Rachel Orosco, where the energy of the young crowd is matched and raised by the two horn players.

Side B contrasts with a performance in memory of friend and guiding spirit Pauline Oliveros. The musical meditation uses the backing of a live recording of McPhee and Oliveros from 1986, layered with a recording of Sarah Weaver’s text “Sound in Peace”. McPhee plays live on the top as a solo, and then is joined by Dove. This was performed at MECA, a Houston arts community center that has been the site of Oliveros, McPhee, and Dove performances for over 20 years, and is the home base of Nameless Sound, the organization founded by Dove and Oliveros.

Album cover art by Gabriel Martinez.
